about me

Liz & I (Ghouls & Fools 6M Nighttime Race 2011)
I never really ran before in my life (except for a short stint on the cross country team in 8th grade) as I was always into team sports. Running was a punishment, not something to be enjoyed.

Three big things changed this: (1) my wife and I signed up for the 2010 Dogfish Dash (mostly for the free beer) which forced me to get out and run, (2) I was challenged by Liz's uncle Jothy Rosenburg to get into shape and took his challenge seriously, and (3) I read Christopher McDougall's book Born to Run (which got me thinking about ultrarunning). These things completely changed my life style.

Now I absolutely love to run and have run everything from 5ks to 50k ultramarathons. I love trail running, but am currently stuck in the concrete jungle of NYC so I have to cope with road running. I also love barefoot/minimalist running as it forces one to have a proper foot strike.

I'm a graduate student in Classics at Columbia University. When I'm not in class or studying, I'm usually running, cycling, or working out (my newest obsession is P90X). I'm married to my best friend Liz who not only puts up with my running, but also joins in!

My other hobbies include: reading, watching documentaries, cooking, stand-up comedy, and drinking interesting microbrews.

Hope you enjoy this blog!
